Seagate Ntfs Driver For Mac Not Readable
Is it a Seagate FreeAgent Dekstop? Basis theme on powerpoint for mac. It's a total and utter piece of crap. I was using it to store HD-WMV content for my Xbox360. I used MacDrive to format it to HFS+ (Oddly enough that's the filesystem the 360 can read, not NTFS).
For months it worked fine. Then suddenly it wouldn't be recognized by either the 360 or my pc. No rhyme or reason either. Sometimes it would be there. Other times it wouldn't. I got sick of dealing with it so it just sat there. When I got my Mac Pro I decided to check it out again.
Then I started to search online for a possible solution. Seems like I'm not the only one having these problems.
The Problem: My Seagate hard drive would not be recognized by my Mac. I had all the NTFS drivers etc. So it should have worked just fine. My solution: Since I had another Seagate drive that I needed to reformat anyways, I did a little research and found that the exFAT format works better for Mac/PC interop. As soon as the format was done on my. The latter is formatted NTFS. But I took good care of choosing a Samsung for this shared disk (seagate barracuda) which makes me able to use The reason I struggled to guess was causing the problem is the following: Paragon's 'NTFS for Mac', is of course checking whether the Disk is seagate or not.
It turns out that the FreeAgent's logic board inside tends to have a fit when dealing with files larger than 4GB. People had said that removing the drive and accessing it directly there were no problems so it's the interface board that's garbage. So now I'm trying to decide what to do with it. I've got 500GB of content on it that I would like to not lose, but it's a crap shoot as to whether or not it would even show up when connected then as an added bonus, if it is detected, will it lock up Finder or not when trying to transfer the files off? My iMac won't recognize my drive either I have been using the same drive for years to back up all my editing work. I rarely move the drive and I can't remember the last time it was accidentally disconnected.
One day it just disappeared from my desktop. The drive is a 1TB Seagate Barracuda and the encasement I bought separately from Macally.
So I have a 1TB external hard drive from Seagate. It has always worked great with my macbook air, but for the past few months it has been harder to connect it (Had to plug it in a few times before it connected, sometimes I had to restart the computer a few times before it would work). The last few times I used it and it actually worked it would disconnect itself without me even touching it or anything. Now, when I plug it in it won't pop ut at all. The external hard drive makes a buzzing sound as usual but isn't blinking like it does when it's plugged into the computer and connected.
It won't pop up under the units tab to the left in the finder window, it won't pop up under USB in utilities, it won't pop up when I open 'About this mac' and the system rapport thing, nor under the Connected USB list. I have checked that all the boxes are clicked in the 'Show content' list.
